UNR Indoor Artificial Golf Greens at Somersett Country Club

The First Heated Indoor Golf Practice Facility in Northern Nevada

Keeping your golf game strong throughout the winter just became easier. In February of 2019, Reno welcomed the first indoor golf practice facility. The University of Nevada, Reno indoor golf practice facility is located at Somersett Country Club. This facility was created using the Dave Pelz’s Elements of Practice, in conjunction with PGA Pro Stuart Smith and UNR Head Men’s Golf Coach Jacob Wilner.

SYNLawn Reno installed a sophisticated course with realistic grades, contours, and slopes to mimic what golfers experience on the course. Our artificial turfs provide an incredibly realistic look and feel to provide a natural golf experience every time you use them. Now, players in Reno and beyond can keep their skills sharp in any season!

Benefits of Winter Practice with Artificial Golf Greens

Practice makes perfect. With the cold winter climate in Reno, it used to be challenging for golfers to stay on top of their game during the off-season months. After the addition of the indoor practice facility, the UNR men and women golf teams and members of the Somersett golf community can stay one stroke ahead of the game. In addition, visiting college golf teams and local high schools have access to the facility to practice their putting, driving, and everything in between in the fully equipped practice center.

The Indoor Golf Facility & Artificial Golf Course in Northern Nevada

Located in Northwest Reno, the Somersett Country Club is home to the first indoor golf practice facility in Northern Nevada. With 4,000 square feet, this golf practice center is one of a kind in Reno! Plus, our golf greens are custom designed by experienced professionals. This practice facility was a collaboration between the UNR Golf Team, Somersett Country Club, and SYNLawn Reno.

Various Types of SYNLawn Artificial Turfs Used

Besides the putting greens itself, a wide variety of SYNLawn synthetic grass was used at the indoor facility. From short to tall, and thick to thin, our turfs create an experience that golfers would encounter on the golf course. The synthetic turf is only one-part, natural undulations and contours replicate different terrains a golfer may encounter when playing on natural golf courses.

The indoor practice facility uses SYNLawn’s proprietary Shot Stopper II system. This provides players with a special layer under the turf that allows their shots to land softly mimicking natural putting greens. Hitting pods have also been installed to give golfers a chance to practice their full swings in the safety of a ball-stop curtain. Golfers can also work on their chipping skills and sand trap shots with a 150 square foot white bunker.

Benefits for the Whole Community from the Golf Turf

All golfers throughout the Reno area benefit from the indoor training facility at the University of Nevada, Reno. Both the Northern Nevada Junior Golf Program and local high school golf teams get to train at the facility in addition to the UNR golf team. The Somersett Country Club members can also take advantage of the indoor training facility. A small fee covers facility maintenance and ensures accessibility.
